Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) was founded in 1938 with an inaugural batch of 14 Fine Art students. NAFA has since been widely recognised as Singapore’s pre-eminent tertiary institution for artistic studies.

Between 1999 and 2009, 11 of NAFA alumni were awarded Cultural Medallions, the prestigious national accolade for artistic achievements conferred by the President of the Republic of Singapore. In addition, 10 of our promising alumni are winners of the Young Artist Award.

Since April 1999, NAFA receives polytechnic-level funding for its Diploma courses from Singapore’s Ministry of Education. (http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/post-secondary/).

In 2005, it moved into 3 purposed-built campuses along Bencoolen Street and in the same year, NAFA received the People Developer Certification in recognition of its relentless effort to upgrade its staff.

NAFA met the standards set up within the Art Quality Assurance Framework in September 2007.

NAFA has been successfully re-certified for the People Developer Award in 2010 for the next three years. This prestigious national Award recognises the academy's achievements in its overall human resource management.

In June 2011, The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the EduTrust certification for four years by the Council for Private Education (CPE). The certification is in recognition of the Academy satisfying the stringent validation by CPE for the Academy's corporate governance, robust academic processes, sound administrative systems that promote student interest and welfare and safeguard student fee protection.

The successful operation of an arts educational institution requires competent administrators and qualified academic staff to support the academic and administrative systems and processes. This validation will enhance NAFA's growing reputation as a world-class arts institution and help reassure parents of local and overseas students that their wards would be well looked after when they study in NAFA. This validation by CPE is in addition to NAFA's People's Developer Award for its effective Human Resource policies and practices.
