INTRODUCTION
The Troupe's Founder
The founder of the Choy's Brothers Chinese Opera Troupe is Mr. Choy Yien Chow. The multi-talented Mr. Choy not only performs, instructs, choreographs and directs opera performances, but is also a qualified martial arts instructor.
The Troupe's Inception and Aims
The Troupe was officially established in August 1989 at the Kampong Glam Sports Club. Its inception was marked by a debut seven-consecutive-night Cantonese opera performance at the Amara Hotel. The Troupe is a self-supporting, amateur performing arts group.
It aims to promote Chinese opera as performing arts in Singapore and to promote Singapore as a cultural centre in an effort to attract tourists to our country.
The Troupe's Activities
The Troupe frequently performs at major hotels, the airport, shopping centre and other tourist attractions such as Sentosa. It has also been invited to perform at major events such as the River Hongbao, the Chinese Cultural Festival, the Traditional Opera Festival, the Singapore Arts Festival, the Lantern and Dumpling Festival.
In its effort to promote Chinese opera, the Troupe had conducted lectures and demonstrations on Chinese Opera in the universities and several schools.
Local & Overseas Performances
The Troupe has performed many popular Cantonese opera excerpts in community centres and in open air stages.
The Troupe has been sent by the Singapore Tourism Board to stage martial arts performances in countries including the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Spain and South Africa.
徐家班戏曲艺术团简介
1989年8月，徐应就先生领导门下弟子合组徐家班戏曲武功艺术团，并进驻甘榜南区体育俱乐部，同时成立粤剧团专门排演文武兼备短剧，并且在安国大酒店举行一连七个晚上成立演出晚会，这是当地业余戏剧团体很特别的壮举。
徐家班是一个自供自助的业余戏剧团体，没有强有力的经济来源，活动经费完全依仗一些对外性质的商业演出节目，以赚取经费来维持剧团。
1998年3月应中国顺德均安镇政府文化部邀请，分别在均安，沙蒲，大良各地巡回演出。
2000年11月徐家班应邀参与由广州市文化部主办的第三届羊城粤剧节。
2002年9月徐家班在黄金剧场为庆祝成立13周年举行“以戏会友”演出。
