INTRODUCTION

World Dance Alliance (Singapore) is a non-profit, non-religious and non-political dance association of Singapore.

The WDA Singapore chapter was previously affiliated with Dance Association Singapore, 2001-2005. In 2005, WDAS became a separate society. WDAS, during its affiliation with DAS and after it became a separate entity, successfully initiated and organized significant events including:

1. WDA Asia-Pacific Dance Bridge (2001) - a four day annual WDA Asia-Pacific regional conference organized as a Singapore Arts Festival in-conjunction event. The conference was attended by WDA delegates from 13 countries and the Singaporean dance community.

2. Made In Singapore (2006) marked the launch of WDAS, a society independent from DAS. Emerging dance talents from Singapore were showcased at this inaugural event.

3. Asia-Pacific Dance Bridge (2007) Asia-Pacific Dance Bridge 2007: Exploring Partnerships further cultivated dance connectivity within the Singapore dance community as well as the Asia Pacific region and beyond but also explored partnership possibilities in the areas of education and training; research and documentation; creation and presentation; status and welfare; as well as management and promotion.

4. WDAS partnered with the Ministry of Education Co-Curricular Activities Branch and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in organizing Choreography: Approaches, Safe Dance Practices and Resources (2007). The two day conference, specially designed for dance instructors/teachers and teachers-in-charge of dance programs in Singapore’s schools, studios, academies and institutions afforded conference participants the opportunity to learn from several established choreographers and dance educators, including WDA members.
